book is volume II of serious research into the history of Karatedô.
It contains translations of texts written by Okinawan and Japanese Karate adepts.
For example: Asato Ankô, Itosu Ankô, Funakoshi Gichin and Egami Shigeru.
second part of the book deals with the influences of Bodhidharma and
Shaolin as described by the pioniers Funakoshi Gichin, Miyagi Chōjun and
Mabuni Kenwa as well as discussing their opinions. Further, it includes a chapter about Bô or Kon in the Ryūkyū tradition and in Shôtôkan. Next is a study about Shôtôkan-katas, such as Gankaku (Chintô), Hangetsu (Seishan) and Sakugawa no Kon. Another chapter considers the historical development of Kumite in the Karate of Funakoshi.
